I enjoy technology in the extreme, but my classification of tech still includes things like fountain pens, lip balm, and paper notebooks. That doesn’t mean it excludes genAI, the things we call phones (but are so much more), or the internal cumbustion engine. What, in particular, I find appealing in it is, when the tech elevates an experience, with out detracting from it.
Too much consumerism and capitalism has invated what we utilize today for most modern tech to be found in such a category. Elevating and then immediately degrading by actively trying to bring you back in to an ecosystem, back in to just this specific app, instituting some recursive heat death loop. Or, in elevating, require you to accept a series of preconditions that limit any subsequent elevation or the total degree of elevation, unless you pay.
This digital garden is an exploration of how to harnes these prevelent modern technological systems in a way that suites this paradigm, as well as to celebrate the existing systems (often concidered legacy) that personify it. Additionally, I hope to explore the relationship between physical and digital writing, the formats and assumptions we've made as we've moved from the later to the former medium.
